Voliminal: Inside The Nine Out Now! - 12.5.2006

Launch Radio Networks reports: Slipknot releases its new two-DVD set, Voliminal: Inside the Nine, today (Tuesday, December 5), with the main 80-minute film also screening tonight at selected theatres around the country. The film was directed by Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan and shot while the band was recording and touring behind its third album, Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses). Crahan told Launch that he originally began the project because he thought the band was going to break up. "The idea behind this was that, number one, there was a lot of fighting with my band from the second record that was caught, and a lot of us hadn't even seen each other for two years," he said. "So I was very interested in how things would pan out because, to me, a lot of it looked like it was gonna be the end, and I felt like I'd have to explain it since I'm one of the guys that started it."

Crahan says that Voliminal presents an "unflinching" look at Slipknot's 10-year history. The documentary was shot on digital handheld cameras over a 28-month period.

The second disc of the two-DVD set features in-depth, exclusive interviews with all nine members of the band, bonus live and television performances, as well as all the videos from Vol. 3.

VOLIMINAL: INSIDE THE NINE - 09.27.2006

Slipknot, the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning, hard rock and heavy metal enigma, will release the DVD Voliminal: Inside the Nine on December 5, 2006.

A special double disc package, Voliminal: Inside the Nine takes the viewer on a several hour journey into the world of Slipknot as the band recently circled the globe in support of the multi-platinum album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). Far from your usual tour film, Voliminal: Inside the Nine is more of an art piece - while fans are taken in the studio, on stage, backstage, on their tour bus and everywhere in between as they experience the energy of a band literally living, breathing and fighting for the music they created, none of it unfolds in ways you'd expect.

Disc 1, titled Voliminal, features a 90-minute film, created and directed by M. Shawn Crahan, better known as Clown, that gives the Slipknot fan a window into the world of the band as seen through the mind of its creator. The film was shot on hand-held cameras and, as a result, is brutally honest and visually unique. The sound and visual edits are intense, disturbing and jarring while the cinematography brings the viewer as close as one can get to the band. Buried in Disc 1 are nine different "rabbit holes," which, when activated, will show a short vignette of each one of the nine members of the band. Not the typical extra footage often found as "easter eggs" on the average DVD, this footage contains some of the most surprising and revealing elements on the DVD.

Disc 2 features three main elements: live footage, music videos and interviews with each member of the band. The live shows were captured at various venues around the world and show Slipknot in unique and somewhat unconventional settings. Everything from outdoor and daytime shows all the way to television award-show performances are included as are the celebrated music videos for "Duality", "Vermilion," "Before I Forget," "The Nameless," and the controversial video for "Vermilion 2," which was never officially released. Additionally, for the first time ever, fans get an up-close look at the band's "Death Masks" used onstage during this tour.

The interviews on this disc are just as groundbreaking as anything the band has ever done. After twelve years, everything is about to change. Nothing is held back and everything is discussed.

Slipknot is the nine piece, ground-breaking, hard rock band out of Des Moines, IA that has sold over 5 million albums in the U.S. on three studio albums. Their last studio album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) was released in May 2004, debuting at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. to date. The album broke new ground for the band and spawned the hit singles "Duality," "Vermilion" and "Before I Forget." In November 2005 the band released Slipknot 9.0: Live, a GOLD certified double live album.

Stay tuned to RR.com, www.slipknot1.com and www.myspace.com/slipknot1 for much more about Slipknot and Voliminal: Inside the Nine in the coming days, weeks, and months.

SLIPKNOT DVD UPDATE - 08.03.2006

Clown is hard at work on the new Slipknot DVD and has checked in with the following update:
It's coming along. It's very time consuming. As usual, we have tons of great footage to choose from. The DVD could probably be 10 hours long if we wanted it to be at this point.
I personally am enjoying the process, because it's a great feeling to reflect on our past achievements (and disasters). So in short, I've been enjoying the entire Subliminal concept - from writing, to practicing, to recording, to playing live - all in my head at once visually and audibly. We can't wait to share it with all of you.
Get ready,
Stay (sic),

SLIPKNOT TO BEGIN WRITING NEW MATERIAL LATER THIS YEAR - 06.05.2006

SLIPKNOT guitarist Mick Thomson has told Greg Prato of Billboard.com that the songwriting for the 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" will begin later this year.

"We're going to start getting back together and working on stuff," Thomson told Billboard.com. "The core that writes the songs tend to get together — it's not as easy to work out stuff when you've got nine people standing in the same room. I would say we'll start working within the next few months. I've talked to [SLIPKNOT bassist] Paul [Gray] a few times. Very slowly, no pressure."

Arriving sooner will be the group's next DVD release, the follow-up to its 2002 DVD, "Disasterpieces". "It's going to be different than our last one," Thomson said. "Our last one mostly focused on the concert, and this one is going to have a lot more personal stuff on it. You get to see more stupid sh*t [laughs]. There'll be some music and stuff, but you're getting to see what our days our like. It should be a lot more fun."

SLIPKNOT GUITARIST TALKS ABOUT UPCOMING DVD - 05.22.2006

SLIPKNOT guitarist Mick Thomson has revealed to Ultimate-Guitar.com that the band are assembling a new DVD. The band's latest DVD release was "Disasterpieces", and at the time it was a revolutionary experience.

Thomson, who was out in Los Angeles wrapping up his five-city Ibanez guitar clinic tour, talked about moving on from "Disasterpieces".

"I mean yeah, that really captured the show at that time," he said. "We always change and evolve. Since then, touring on this record [2004's 'Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)'], we always feel we have to bring something new. You have to keep people interested, but you have keep yourself interested, creatively. And to us, if we don't feel good during the show and we don't get a vibe off what's going on then how can we give that vibe to the crowd when we're not even getting ourselves. So, that, at the time was I think an incredible representation of where we were at. I'm pretty proud of the way that turned out."

Thomson also said that fans will get a new look at SLIPKNOT, behind the scenes, on the forthcoming DVD.

"Our next DVD that's coming out is not going to be like the same type of format, with just our newer record," he explained. "You're going to get a little bit of that, but for the most part it's going to be pretty different. More backstage stuff, you're going to see a lot more inside stuff as opposed to just a concert performance."

SLIPKNOT are taking some time away and hope to reconvene sometime in 2007. At press time there was no release date for the collection.

SLIPKNOT DRUMMER PAYS TRIBUTE TO DEATH ANGEL - 04.14.2006

DEATH ANGEL's official web site has been updated with a photo of SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison at the age of 16 sporting a DEATH ANGEL t-shirt and standing behind a drum kit ready to pound away on the skins. An accompanying message from Jordison reads as follows: "This is a picture is from from my 1991 yearbook wearing a DEATH ANGEL 'The Ultra-Violence' shirt. Me and my friends were all heavily influenced by the band and played covers in our garage of DEATH ANGEL classics such as 'Mistress of Pain', 'Bored' and 'Seemingly Endless Time'. It's almost 15 years later and I am still a fan of the band. The new record, 'The Art of Dying', is a must for any fan of old-school upbeat thrash. Here's to one of the best Bay Area bands EVER! Man, my hair sucked."

"The Art of Dying" was released in May 2004 through Nuclear Blast Records. The group's first studio album since 1990's "Act III", "The Art of Dying" was recorded at SF Soundworks studios in San Francisco, California with producer Brian Joseph Dobbs (VOIVOD, MANMADEGOD).

SLIPKNOT has been nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for six consecutive years, but never took home the Grammy until now.

The band went on hiatus at the end of 2005 after nearly 18 months on the road in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are now recording the second album from their other band, STONE SOUR, while percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan will make a new album with his side project, TO MY SURPRISE. Drummer Joey Jordison will tour this spring and summer with MINISTRY.

SLIPKNOT DRUMMER: 'THERE WILL BE ANOTHER RECORD' - 02.12.2006

SLIPKNOT members Joey Jordison and Shawn Crahan spoke to Kyle Munson of The Des Moines Register about winning their first Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" at this past week's event in Los Angeles.

Crahan, who shed tears while accepting the award, said, "It was like I was being sucked down a black hole."

SLIPKNOT snagged a Grammy on their sixth consecutive year of being nominated.

"It really still hasn't sunk in yet," Jordison said Friday from Los Angeles. "I'm glad that we didn't win it earlier," he added. "It really felt like we deserved it this time."

Band members have carved out time for various side projects, including singer Corey Taylor and Jim Root's more melodic metal band, STONE SOUR; Crahan's pop-oriented TO MY SURPRISE; and Jordison's shock-rocking MURDERDOLLS. DJ Sid Wilson has learned to play piano and is currently rehearsing a chamber-pop band called MY LOVE AFFAIR.

Some are raising families. Crahan is the father of four; his oldest, 14-year-old daughter Alex, attended the Grammys with him. Taylor has three kids.

Post-Grammys on Wednesday, the members of SLIPKNOT made the rounds of various record-industry parties, including a stop at Paramount Studios. Crahan and his family eventually grabbed late-night burgers. Wilson ended up at Club LAX, owned by a friend and fellow DJ.

Crahan hits the road in March with TO MY SURPRISE. Jordison — who will spend May through August touring as the drummer for MINISTRY, one of the bands that SLIPKNOT bested in the Grammy race — said SLIPKNOT has "skeletons of about eight or nine songs that were left over from 'Vol. 3' that just didn't come into fruition." Songwriting sessions are tentatively set to begin later this year in Des Moines.

"There will be another record," Jordison promised.

CLOWN REFLECTS ON SLIPKNOT GRAMMY WIN - 02.10.2006

As reported by Launch Radio Networks and Blabbermouth earlier today, Slipknot capped off an amazing two years on Wednesday night by winning its first Grammy Award, in the category of "Best Metal Performance", for "Before I Forget" from 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".

But the win was also bittersweet for percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan, who choked up as he spoke about his father passing away while the band was on tour. "I always knew that I was gonna lose my father," he said. "It was just hard to have that realization and have that sink in, because there's so much sacrifice you do to have your dream, it never ends and it can really hurt and it can cut in deep. But this is what we do, and this is what we were born to do, and my old man wouldn't want it any other way."

Slipknot has been nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category for six consecutive years, but never took home the Grammy until now.

The band went on hiatus at the end of 2005 after nearly 18 months on the road in support of Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses).

Singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are now recording the second album from their other band, Stone Sour, while "Clown" will make a new album with his side project, To My Surprise. Drummer Joey Jordison will tour this spring and summer with Ministry.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! - 02.09.2006

Congrats to Slipknot for winning their their very first Grammy last night, as "Before I Forget" took the Best Heavy Metal Performance honors.

Not to take anything away from Ministry, Mudvayne, Shadows Fall or Rammstein, but it's about time, wouldn't you agree? Maybe the industry voters didn't want to give out those little gold statues to NINE guys!

In any case, we're damn proud of the guys, ourselves, and all of the maggots who helped them earn this great honor.

You can listen to "Before I Forget" right HERE.

TAYLOR SLAMS MUSIC CRITICS - 01.04.2006

SLIPKNOT frontman COREY TAYLOR has slammed critics who label his group a cartoon band - because most of them don't even go out and buy records.

The alternative rocker, whose band is known for its scary masks and violent stage performances, claims people who don't buy music have no right to judge musician's success.

He says, "Somebody asked me last year, 'How does it feel to be looked at as a playschool metal band?' Like we're the gateway to other metal bands.

"I'm like, 'It's f**king awesome, f**k you!'

"But I look at critics the same way I look at voters; if you don't vote, you have no right to bitch about the President.

"If you download music, you have no right to bitch about bands because you haven't put money where your mouth is."

TAYLOR CREDITS WIFE FOR HELPING HIM KICK THE BOTTLE - 01.03.2006

SLIPKNOT frontman COREY TAYLOR credits his wife SCARLETT for making him realise he had to stop drinking.

THE NAMELESS hitmaker, who was a cocaine addict and homeless at the age of 15, only decided to quit alcohol when his spouse made him take a look at himself in the mirror.

He says, "I was an alcoholic. It was really bad by the time we were recording SUBLIMINAL VERSES. I was out of control, hiding Jack Daniel's (whisky) bottles under my pillow.

"I would drink from the moment I got up until the moment I passed out, wherever that was. I didn't like it and my wife didn't like it, so she basically grabbed me by the hair and said, 'look at yourself!'

"I was swollen and f**ked up and I didn't realise it.

"The last night I drank, all I remember is we were at the Viper Room. I was spitting vomit at people walking down Sunset (Boulevard, Los Angeles).

"I almost got my a*s kicked and wife just left, like, 'F**k you! I can't take this.'"

SLIPKNOT'S CLOWN SAYS BAND WERE OFFERED OZZFEST 2006 DATES - 12.22.2005

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan told the Des Moines Register that the band will spend 2006 off the road after performing 233 shows in support of "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)". Then again, SLIPKNOT already has been offered a stray date or two on next year's Ozzfest, said Crahan. The next SLIPKNOT product to hit shelves should be a DVD.

"It's more or less going to be a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff," Crahan said.

Meanwhile, Crahan's side project, TO MY SURPRISE, begins recording a sophomore album in March.

Singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root's other band, STONE SOUR, soon will hole up in Dave Grohl's Los Angeles studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz.

And drummer Joey Jordison is expected to tour with MINISTRY.

SLIPKNOT'S CLOWN: 'I HAVE A FEELING WE COULD WIN A GRAMMY THIS YEAR' - 12.11.2005

SLIPKNOT members Shawn "Clown" Crahan (percussion) and Jim Root (guitar) spoke to The Des Moines Register about being nominated for a Grammy for the sixth consecutive year. The single "Before I Forget" from the band's third album, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", was nominated for Best Metal Performance alongside songs by MINISTRY, MUDVAYNE, RAMMSTEIN and SHADOWS FALL — all bands that SLIPKNOT has toured with.

"I'm honored to be nominated again," Crahan said on Thursday (Dec. 8). "I have a feeling we could win this year."

SLIPKNOT has yet to take home a Grammy trophy, having competed in previous years with such heavy-hitters as METALLICA.

"They're breaking us down to the point where we really don't care we're nominated," was Root's more jaded reaction. "By the time we're so far over it, when we win one it'll be a real surprise." He added that he has a "nice collection of Grammy medallions they send you when you get nominated," manufactured by Tiffany.

The 48th Grammys will be awarded in a telecast Feb. 8 on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

RR 25, TAKE III - 09.13.2005

Today we give you more music from the upcoming Roadrunner United The All-Star Sessions release, one of the songs from captain Joey Jordison, a death metal track titled "Annihilation By The Hands Of God." The line-up for the track is as follows:

Glen Benton (DEICIDE) - vocals
Matt DeVries (CHIMAIRA) - rhythm guitar
Rob Barrett (CANNIBAL CORPSE, ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION) - rhythm guitar
James Murphy (ex-TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY)- solo
Steve DiGiorgio (TESTAMENT, SADUS) - fretless bass
Joey Jordison (SLIPKNOT) - drums

"I had the idea of using Glen Benton on the song before even writing anything," tells Roadrunner United captain Joey Jordison. "However, instead of writing a typical death metal song, I wanted to do something a little more structured, even hooky, while still maintaining death metal and blast beat aspects."

The result, a technical piece of death metal filled with the individual personalities of members from the bands Deicide, Chimaira, Malevolent Creation, Death, and Sadus...and of course, Slipknot, as Joey himself had written the song prior to the members from the above bands coming to town to record.

"Steve (bass) comes out of left field, he's one of a kind. Rob (guitar) contributed greatly to a black metal tone of the song with his guitar parts over the blast beat sections, and Matt (guitar) with his picking style. Each guy had their own staple on how their parts of the song should go, all of which helped with the overall feel of the song," Joey praises.

When asked for a favorite part of the song, Joey has no comment. "I write songs as a whole, with sections that move from one part to another and all make sense together in some way." That being said, he does say to check out the searing breakdown, crunch section, right before the last pre-chorus.

As for the lyrics, they were all written by Glen himself, so you should have an idea of the lyrical content. If you have trouble following the words for now (lyrics will be posted online upon release of the CD), do know you get four "Satan's" in a row during the bridge of the song.

"I couldn't be happier with it," Jordison tells of how "Annihilation By The Hands Of God" turned out. "Probably the favorite song I did...though, hard to pick as each of the four are so different from one another." With that in mind, check out "Annihilation By The Hands Of God," now in our MUSIC section, and come October 11th (release date for Roadrunner United) you'll be hearing all songs to have come from captain Jordison, and decide first-hand which is your favorite.

Enjoy.

Roadrunner United The All-Star Sessions coming October 11th
